Special features regarding teachingRomance Studies comprises French, Italian and Spanish in Münster; additional Romance languages can be learned. The range of courses includes all eras from the Middle Ages to the present, always combining demanding theory with practical applications to words and text. Thematically changing seminars and lectures ensure a varied degree course, offering space to pursue one’s own interests and to open up new fields together with the lecturers. Practical language training is offered exclusively by native language teachers.

Special features regarding the international orientationThe stay abroad is compulsory; High number of partner universities and ERASMUS spots in France, Spain and Italy as well as Belgium and Hungary; in addition, our employees take advantage of the possibility of staff mobility; participation in international conferences is a matter of course; regular international guest lecturers enhance ordinary teaching and also offer specialist lectures; ERASMUS incomings are regular guests as well; practical language courses are held exclusively by native speakers

Special features regarding the equipmentThe seminar rooms are well equipped for modern teaching (WiFi, projectors), and the Romance Studies Seminar has an interactive whiteboard.

Special features regarding research activitiesAll professors in the Romance Studies department have research and publication projects that are funded as individual projects (through budgeted positions, the German Research Foundation (DFG) or fellowships) or are organised through and connected with research networks with qualification positions. Institutionally and interdisciplinarily, the Romance Studies scholars participate in all of the department’s research training groups, e.g. in the Cluster of Excellence on RELIGION AND POLITICS. Financially funded projects, linked with univ. of different countries, can be found in Romance Studies as well as joint research with colleagues in Erasmus partner universities.

Support for foundersThe University of Münster has its own office to supports those interested in founding a start-up at the university, from the idea stage through to implementation.

Other special featuresThe departmental library has a superb collection; its stock makes it one of the largest libraries for Romance Studies in Germany, making it one of the best venues for solid research. Romance Studies is excellently positioned in the field of academic advising: There are enough advisers available, working quickly, in a solution-oriented manner and, of course, discreetly. The students there also have the support of a very dedicated departmental student body.
