Special features regarding teachingRomance Studies in Trier comprises 3 Romance philologies (French, Italian, Spanish) and is distinguished, among other things, by its teaching excellence in the specialist disciplines and language practice, by its thematically broad and interdisciplinary courses, by the research-based consideration of Romance-speaking cultural areas throughout the world and by the high degree of internationalisation as part if university partnerships and exchange relationships with universities in Europe, Canada and Hispanic America.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe international orientation is characterised in particular by its teaching of and research into the Romance-language-speaking cultural areas throughout the world, the high degree of internationalisation through university partnerships and exchange relationships with universities in Europe (especially France, Spain, Italy), Canada and Hispanoamerica (especially Dominican Republic, Mexico, Colombia) and its networking with the University of the Greater Region (Université de Liège, Université de Lorraine (Metz&Nancy) and Université du Luxembourg). In addition, co-tutelle procedures, honorary memberships in international institutions.

Other special featuresInnovations since 2019: Compensation of the basic study of Latin; Options for level-specific approval without/B1-level fluency in It. and Span.; Implementation of crash courses companion to the course of study to achieve Level B1 (It./Span.); Introduction to primary school instruction in French; Further expansion of the student counselling offer through more personalised counselling and student mentoring. In the years 2013, 2014 and 2018 four members of the Trier Romance studies department received the teaching award of the University of Trier. Another member was also nominated for the teaching award of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 2016 and 2022.
