  • Special features regarding teaching
    Teaching in the "Aviation and Aerospace Engineering" department aims to train highly qualified and responsible academics in the high-technology fields "Aviation and Aerospace" and "Vehicle Engineering". All courses are geared toward covering the range between theoretical principles and their application in engineering practice. Small exercise groups, many practicals in very well-equipped laboratories and extensive opportunities for independent work in research and industrial projects form the basis of this teaching method.

  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    For many years, the department has maintained a comprehensive international exchange programme for Bachelor's and Master's training inside and outside of Europe. The main partner universities are the RMIT in Melbourne, Universiti Putra Malaysia and the universities in Bologna, Madrid and Paris. In addition to the possibility of completing a semester abroad, the department also offers English-language Bachelor's modules. The Master's degree is taught entirely in English, which makes the course very attractive for students from all over the world.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    A special feature of the department is its diversity and equipment in the laboratories, which is currently being added to: The Competence Centre for Mobility (KMAC) with new lecture halls and laboratories as well as a new test facilities building is currently being built for this purpose. Current issues in automotive engineering can be looked into there, using emission measuring equipment and battery test benches for example. The department has a "flying" laboratory for use in research and teaching in the form of a 4-seater motored aircraft and a 2-seater, state-of-the-art motored glider.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    The FH Aachen is the only university in North Rhine-Westphalia that has teaching and research expertise in the high-tech fields of Aviation and Aerospace as well as the automotive industry and where synergies can be specifically researched and capitalised on. The department is home to a research Institute ECSM "European Centre for Sustainable Mobility", an NRW competence platform "Synergetic Automotive and Aerospace Engineering" and one graduate college with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
