  • Special features regarding the equipment
    In addition to five large workstation rooms of the university computer centre (accessible 24/7), numerous Computer Science labs provide the basis for the practicals within the curriculum of the Computer Science course with their customised hardware and software. The equipment includes tablets, smartphones, robotics technology (Nao, ...), smart home equipment, Lego robots, virtual reality equipment (Oculus Rift, ...), point-of-sales equipment, graphics accelerators, Embedded (Cortex, ...), 3D printers, network equipment (routers, switches, ...), as well as dedicated software (e.g. for cloud computing).

    The university-wide Career Center offers a range of advisory services to support business start-ups (https://career-center.hs-offenburg.de/).
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    Students with disabilities may complete examinations after the deadlines set in the examination regulations or complete equivalent assessments in a different form. The students to whom this applies can apply for an extension of the time allowed for examinations. The examination board of the relevant degree programme decides on these applications. The universities have accessible architecture (elevators, accessible premises and accessible sanitary facilities). The disability officer is the representative for matters relating to disabled people.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    Bridging courses in Mathematics and Programming are offered in the early stages of studying to compensate for differences in students’ prior qualifications. Especially at the beginning of their studies and/or if students have poor results, they also receive individual guidance from professors, staff members and students from higher semesters. In laboratories, the lab groups are put together to include members with and without prior vocational training.
  • Other special features
    The Computer Science degree courses at the Hochschule Offenburg are characterised by a special relation to practice. The almost 40 different practicals in areas such as Web Technology, Cloud Computing, Enterprise Applications, Embedded Systems, Mobile Computing, Big Data Analytics or Parallel Programming are closely linked with the theoretical courses and qualify students to actively master innovative technologies. Application-oriented projects and work placements complete the profile and are the basis for a high level of acceptance of the courses by industry.
