    Research results from the institutes for Industrial Information Technology and Future Energy, Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, the SmartFactoryOWL run in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Society and the CENTRUM INDUSTRIAL IT research and development centre are used in teaching. In this outstanding environment, students have their finger on the pulse and have excellent career prospects in industry and research.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    Due to numerous third-party funded research and development projects and existing campus partners, the faculty has access to excellent technical equipment for teaching. Two examples: In the SmartFactoryOWL operated by Fraunhofer and the university students can experience up close the development and testing of new automation technologies. At the Fraunhofer Cyber Security Lab and the Big Data Lab, students investigate how to quickly and efficiently close security gaps in networked production systems.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    The Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering department at the OWL University of Applied Sciences is the number 1 in terms of research performance: It holds the top position among all universities of applied sciences and universities in NRW. This is the result of the current analysis grid of the Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology, which allows direct performance comparison. Currently about 20 public and 20 bilateral research projects are carried out with national and international funding. Approximately 60 research staff are involved in these projects.
  • Support for founders
    The bachelor’s degree includes the modules "Innovation and Technology Management" and "Entrepreneurship", and the master's degree, "Innovation and Development Strategies" and "Management Skills and Business Administration". The companies OWITA, coverno and innelekt, which emerged from the department, as well as Fraunhofer IOSB-INA support the planning and implementation of student start-up ideas. As part of the KNOWLEDGEcube, we offer a start-up café for networking, workshops for brainstorming and information on financing. The cross-departmental module "Tech-Startup" for technology start-ups was launched in the 2017 winter semester.
