  • Special features regarding teaching
    Research results from the institutes for industrial information technology (inIT) and Future Energy (iFE), Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, the SmartFactoryOWL run in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Society, and from the research and development centre CENTRUM INDUSTRIAL IT (CIIT) are directly included in teaching. Such an outstanding environment allows students to be up to date with cutting edge research and provides excellent career prospects industry and research.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    In our international Master’s programme ‘Information Technology’, we have already had students from 27 countries. Through the Institutes for Industrial Information Technology (inIT) and Future Energy (iFE) as well as the Fraunhofer IOSB-INA, the department cooperates with leading research institutions in IT and automation worldwide. The invitation of CENTRUM INDUSTRIAL IT (CIIT) to the world’s largest industrial hackathon ‘FactoryHack’ was taken up in 2017 by around 300 programmers, developers and students. There will be further FactoryHacks.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    Many research and development projects that receive a large amount of third-party funding and campus partners means that the department has outstanding technical teaching facilities. Two examples: -In the SmartFactoryOWL run by Fraunhofer and the university, students can experience and monitor the development and testing of new automation technologies. -In the Fraunhofer Cyber Security Lab and in the Big Data Lab, students explore how to close existing security gaps in networked production systems quickly and efficiently.
  • Support for founders
    In the Bachelor’s programme we offer modules on "Innovation and technology management” and "Entrepreneurship", and in the Master’s programme "Innovation and Development Strategies" and "Management Skills and Business Administration". The companies which were set up out of the department, OWITA, coverno and innelekt, and the Fraunhofer IOSB-INA provide support with planning and realisation of student start-up ideas. In the KNOWLEDGEcube we offer a founders café for networking, idea workshops, and information on funding. The interdisciplinary "Tech-Startup" module for technology start-ups was launched in winter semester 2017 across all departments.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    Students who cannot take an examination either fully or partly in the intended form on account of permanent disabilities or chronic conditions may be permitted by the chair of the examination board to complete an equivalent but different form of assessment. The university has a representative for students with disabilities or chronic conditions in the Admissions Office. The point of contact for psychosocial guidance is the Student Advice Centre. Students have elevator access to all floors in all buildings on the Lemgo campus.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
    The department has extended access to its degree programmes by developing part-time options, programme schedules for self-organised part-time study, and a distance learning programme in conjunction with the publisher Springer Spektrum. The department attracts a diverse mixture of students and staff members for its strong research and interdisciplinary degree programmes. The TechLipp learning lab for schools is one of the ways it creates and strengthens interest in STEM subjects.
