Special features regarding teachingThe application context of the teaching context is defined by the spatial reference. Necessary skills define the recording, storage, modelling, processing, dissemination and visualisation of Geo reference information (standards, web services, semantic web). Students acquire a sound knowledge of software development (programming, databases, web applications, software engineering, image processing, GIS, computer vision), which can be specialised in the key areas of project work.

Special features regarding the equipmentExcellently equipped seminar rooms (projectors, some with whiteboards, educational network in the PC laboratories); highly modern instrumental equipment to a total value of approx. EUR 3 million (levels, tachymeters, laser scanners, laser trackers, geodetic GPS, etc.); on-going modernisation; professional software systems for the fields of GIS, image processing, remote sensing, Geodesy and measurement engineering (ESRI ArcMap, ERDAS Imagine/LPS, Cyclone, Geograf etc.); extensive Information and Communication Services for students through Centre for Information and Communication Technology; cooperation with the University of Mainz.
-
Special features regarding research and developmentThe research takes place at our own institute - i3mainz. It deals with research and development tasks as well as technology transfer, especially in the spatial fields of visualisation, 3D metrology, image analysis, spatial data infrastructures, positioning and navigation, semantic modelling, spatial humanities. Project example. BAM (Carl Zeiss Foundation): Within the scope of the research project, innovative analysis and prediction methods based on deep learning approaches will be developed for the application areas of smart city and optical monitoring.
