Special features regarding teachingThere is a skills lab and simulation lab at the university for acquiring enhanced practical skills. Furthermore, research-based learning plays a decisive role in the didactic concept of teaching at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences and is implemented in the course of Applied Nursing Science within the framework of student teaching and research projects.

Special features regarding the equipmentIn its strategy, Freiburg University of Applied Sciences has clearly advocated the digitisation of the university. In addition to specialist databases, the affiliated library of the German Caritas Association provides a library with a special collection focus on nursing science. In a three-year project, funded among others by the Robert Bosch Foundation, a basic stock of German and foreign nursing literature was built up between 1994 and 1997 to supply the newly established nursing courses throughout Germany and has been continuously expanded since then.
Special features regarding research and developmentAs of November 2020, more than 9 research projects are in progress in the research focus area of health services research. These include, for example, a project on digital education processes in old age, a project on care homes in the neighbourhood or a project on solutions for care experiences during the Corona Lockdown.
Other special featuresThe university provides high-quality equipment for digital teaching. Different video conference systems are accessible via a central learning platform. Tools for digital collaboration are offered as well as a dedicated teaching video portal. Teachers and students are supported in the application by a department for digital teaching.
