Special features regarding teachingBroad, interdisciplinary approach; Integration of experienced practitioners in teaching; Compared to universities, relatively small annual intakes, resulting in a good and mainly very interactive learning environment. The main areas of focus of foundational studies is on teaching broad methodological principles (including in the fields of mathematics, physics, mechanical and materials science and computer science) for work in the engineering sciences. At the main study stage, the focus shifts to the use and application of the knowledge learned (e.g. simulation, sensor technology, photonics, robotics).
-
Special features regarding the international orientationPromotion of international mobility, particularly through a semester abroad at one of the approx. 70 partner universities of the Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten; Foreign language training is part of the curricula.
-
Special features regarding the equipmentExtensive laboratory equipment in technically interesting and current fields, e.g.: Physics laboratory with extensive experimental equipment; Optics laboratory; 3D printing laboratory; Electronics laboratory; Microcontroller laboratory; Computer rooms for free use; Access to the university’s HOME maker space
-
Special features regarding research and developmentThe degree course is integrated into the research projects of the Institute for Photonic Systems. Third-party-funded research on current issues in photonics takes place here. Research projects are carried out in cooperation with other universities and industrial companies. Academic staff are recruited from among graduates of the degree programme and from RWU. Students are involved in ongoing research as part of final and project work. The head of the institute is a member of the BW-CAR, which has its own doctoral college for Baden-Württemberg.
-
Other special featuresTeachers come from a wide range of disciplines in a total of three departments at RWU. The academic orientation of the course of study is expressed both in the increased focus on mathematics and physics and in the involvement of students in ongoing research projects of the teaching professors. Both German and English are used as teaching languages at the basic study stage in physical engineering. The bilingualism and the international composition promote optimal career preparation.

(PT)= Physical Technology (IntDiscip)= very interdisciplinary and thus not classified;
As the ranking is done for the whole subject area, for the single "sub-subjects" it can happen that not all rank groups are represented in all criteria.
