Special features regarding teachingInterdisciplinary structure of all degree courses; Course-specific specialisation based on Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Business Administration; efficient course sizes with 20 to max. 60 students; practical sessions in ideal small groups of 10 to 20 students; wide range of Bachelor's/Master's theses from industry; projects/case studies from companies in small groups (4-8 students); approx. 50% of teaching done by specialists with practical experience; individual recognition of prior knowledge.

Special features regarding research and developmentThe technical faculty in Wels is the largest and most research-intensive faculty at the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences: An average of around 180 ongoing projects, approx. EUR 9 million of external R&D funding acquired per year, and approx. 140 permanent research assistants. Major projects include: Josef Ressel Centre for innovative multi-body dynamics, Josef Ressel Centre for thermographic non-destructive testing, K Centre for Feed and Food, Quality, Safety and Innovation, various Interreg projects jointly with research institutions from Bavaria, the Czech Republic and many more.

Other special featuresCampus in town centre and close to station; due to the small size there is direct contact with professors and intensive project supervision; all courses of study have a high proportion of practical work; fixed practical and laboratory spaces, extensive range of tutorials in optional subjects (languages); opportunity to obtain external certificates in the fields of quality and environmental management (TÜV-Süd), value analysis (VDI), international welding engineer (IIW), blasting authorisation course, etc.; measures to support women entering the UAS.
