  • Special features regarding teaching
    The Bachelor's and Master's studies are conducted in small personal year groups. These enable the ideal interaction between students and teaching staff and help to ensure optimum study results. The broad range of the training in the Bachelor's degree course is followed by the option of further study either in the structural field or the area of the building industry/construction site management. The unique way in which the mutual understanding between Architecture and Civil Engineering is actively promoted significantly improves the skills and quality of the graduates and the projects that they plan and produce.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    The department supports stays abroad for the students as part of an Erasmus semester with straightforward transfer of credits gained in this phase and offers the option of financial support for a work placement period abroad. The department has partnerships with 30 foreign higher education institutions, primarily in Europe. The range of cooperation includes student and teaching mobility as well as collaboration in teaching and research.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The technical equipment in the study centre is state of the art in terms of university equipment and permits teaching and learning with all the audio-visual support needed. Students have access to all the information they need for and from their studies, including course documents, e-mail and Internet, through their own personal student accounts. Access is available through an adequate number of computers and also through private laptops throughout the building. Extensive information is also available through smartphones by means of the studentsLife app.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    The current research projects are either carried out as partner projects with partners from industry, SME and from other universities (TU-Graz, Universität für Bodenkultur Wien) or as independent research projects (minority). The key areas are in the field of developing new building components using high-performance materials, support structure reinforcement and structural optimisation (heat, moisture transfer) of building components. The laboratory facilities include a building materials lab, a structural building lab and a construction physics open-air test rig; One completed cooperative doctorate in the years 2015-2017

  • Other special features
    The Civil Engineering & Architecture area of studies is housed in a very attractive historical building that has been subject to extremely successful architectural adaptation for its current use. It offers an positive and inspiring framework for successful academic studies. This is added to by small groups in which students are never treated as impersonal numbers in the crowd but are always treated as respected individuals. The close proximity to teachers and fellow students also ensures intensive communication and optimum support.
