Special features regarding the equipmentVery modern techn. equipment (e.g. own high-voltage hall, mechatronics laboratory, Zittau power plant laboratory, teaching and training station Zittau - Süd); In 2016-18 all laboratories, classrooms and offices were refitted using initial setup grants and DFG funding for large-scale equipment (setup of an EMC laboratory with two cabins and a partial discharge measuring cabin in the high-voltage laboratory, which is still under construction). Location-independent provision of specialist software and databases via the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

Special features regarding research and developmentThe department carries out 90% of industrial research and approx. 50% of the total research at the HSZG, close cooperation and joint project groups with Fraunhofer institutes: Fraunhofer Institute f. Machine tools and forming technology IWU, Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technology and Image Exploitation IOSB, research in the department as well as in affiliated institutes of the HSZG, Institute for Process Technology; Process automation and measurement technology (IPM) with approx. 50 full-time equivalent positions is the largest structural unit of the HSZG; In addition to transregional research projects, many are also carried out with local stakeholders

Support for foundersThe faculty participates in the activities of the start-up academy of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (https://www.hszg.de/studium/karriereservice/gruenderakademie-2.html). Company start-ups are supported as part of the course Project Management for Engineers.
