Special features regarding teachingFor us, excellent teaching is application-related, research- or science-based, interdisciplinary teaching as well as teaching characterised by internationality and diversity of methods. It is based on the latest scientific findings, which also result from own application-oriented research. The application orientation of instruction is supported by integrated internships and our students’ practice-oriented project theses and dissertations. Our graduates have sound and broad expertise in the design of mechatronic systems.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationThe International Office is THE point of contact for international students, teachers and visitors, advising all members of the Kiel University of Applied Sciences on stays abroad and funding opportunities. Kiel University of Applied Sciences cooperates with more than 100 partner universities worldwide, including around 80 within the framework of the EU Erasmus+ programme. In Mechatronics, the 6th semester is perfect for periods abroad as it consists exclusively of elective modules. A learning agreement concluded before the stay gives students flexibility in their choice of subjects at the partner university.
-
Special features regarding the equipmentThe laboratories in the field of mechatronics are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Equipment that is up to date enables the latest teaching methods and the implementation of the highest research objectives. The following laboratories are mentioned as examples: Competence area Electromobility Schleswig-Holstein (intelligent mobility) with extensive equipment for E-Vehicles, etc.; Power electronics – devices for the production of power modules; Digital factory (Industry 4.0) – production plants – and much more. Library: Free access to literature databases such as Springer Online
-
Special features regarding research and developmentThe IuE department is very networked with local industry and a very high level of third-party funding >3.5 MEUR within the last 3 years. The university's own students participate in research projects. Research focuses are: Intelligent Mobility (Own Competence Centre for Electromobility); Sustainable energy (smart grid); Digital factory (research in the field of Industry 4.0); Power Electronics; Maritime technologies (autonomous (sub) marine vehicles); Robotics (research with humanoid robots); AI
-
Support for foundersThe IuE department works closely with institutions to support business start-ups and maintains its own business incubator. This is the first point of contact for all those interested in founding a business on the FH Kiel campus. Students have the option of an initial consultation and joint exchange of foundation experiences, e.g. within the scope of start-up days. WT.SH (Wirtschaftsförderung und Technologietransfer Schleswig-Holstein) is also an important partner in advising and promoting business start-ups.
