    The materials scientists at the FAU were in the top 100 of the QS World University Ranking in 2018. Materials science occupies 6th place in the national ranking. In terms of citation and publication indicators, materials science occupies several top 3 places. In teaching and research, all material classes are represented by a dedicated professorial Chair. With 9 professorial Chairs, it is the largest Materials Science department in Europe.
