Special features regarding teachingIn the field of Economics, there is the option to choose between a Business Administration or Economics major. Close cooperation with the Leibniz Information Centre for Business (ZBW) which enables direct insights into practice. In the "Scientific Work (Wissenschaftliches Arbeiten)" event, students are prepared for scientific work and presentations in seminar, project and final theses. Start-up activities are supported by practice-oriented tasks, the reference to practice-oriented research and the mediation of contacts.

Special features regarding the international orientationBusiness Informatics students have access to the exchange universities of the Institute of Computer Science and those of the Institute of Business Administration and Economics of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences. There is a cross-institute cooperation with Süddansk Universitet Slagelse, DK; Erasmus exchange projects of the Institute of Computer Science with Oviedo and Valencia (Spain), Grenoble (France), Bergen (Norway), Turku (Finland), Klagenfurt (Austria), Prague (Czech Republic), Liverpool and Portsmouth (Great Britain).

Special features regarding the equipmentTwo laboratory rooms with the following equipment: Various modelling tools, project management systems, eCommerce systems, ERP systems, database systems and home automation systems with a control centre. IEEE, ACM Digital Library - is used in academic work; Intershop 7; High-performance computers are made available to students for their own research and application projects; CPLEX (IBM) for modelling and solving optimisation problems.

Special features regarding research activitiesCombination of practical problems taken from industry and basic research in the fields of Computer Science and Business Informatics. Among other things, in the areas of optimised automation concepts in production as well as automation of data protection and security checks. Investigation of Open Science, Gamification, Twitter; strong interdisciplinary research (e.g. Science 2.0, LOC-DB) as well as development of online and offline algorithms for scheduling and packaging problems, and further development of methods used in linear programming.

Support for foundersCooperation with start-up and innovation management; Centre for Entrepreneurship offers multi-day courses on concrete start-up preparation; regular events to support start-ups, for example a start-up café with an open campus.

Other special featuresIndividual correction of exercises at all basic events offered by the institute. Regular excursions to companies (at home and abroad); practical lectures by business partners; involvement in current research projects in exercises and also in projects and seminars also in cooperation with industrial research partners
