Special features regarding teachingThe Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is divided into the foundation course, main course and the final specialisation course. Specialisation is possible in the branch disciplines of "Constructive Mechanical Engineering" and "Energy Mechanical Engineering". Alongside technical training, personal development is furthered with foreign languages, business and management. Particular emphasis is placed on hands-on training offered in practical laboratory sessions, in a project year and finally in a work placement. In the Master's degree, the focus is on new materials, their use and on simulation-based construction.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationImportant elements include support for interaction between students and teaching staff, targeted acquisition of international research projects to intensify international contact and support for incoming exchange students and students with regular enrolment who do not have German as their first language.
-
Exchange universities for stay abroadsKaunas University of Technology, Litauen

Special features regarding the equipmentThe technical facilities include laboratories for materials and components testing, a flow laboratory and a thermodynamics laboratory, as well as an automation laboratory. Our crash system is a unique feature that simulates the collision of machine parts in accidents. Our teaching workshops with state-of-the-art CNC milling machines and various 3D printers (rapid prototyping) can be used to produce small parts and test samples. Computer-based teaching, such as CAD or FEM simulation is provided in IT lecture theatres specifically designed for this purpose.
-
Special features regarding research and developmentThe focus of research is on Lightweight Construction. This is the key issue for all automotive manufacturers to reduce fuel consumption in the context of increasing demands on vehicle comfort and driving safety. Modern large-scale lightweight construction structures are developed in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering to increase permissible payloads. Lightweight construction also plays a key role as an inter-disciplinary technology in Energy Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Architecture and Medical Technology to shape the technologies in an economic, social and environmentally-friendly context.

(ME)= Mechanical Engineering (IntDiscip)= very interdisciplinary and thus not classified;
As the ranking is done for the whole subject area, for the single "sub-subjects" it can happen that not all rank groups are represented in all criteria.
