  • Special features regarding teaching
    The department offers students a particularly broad range of training, not focused on a single product group. Content spans general technologies of plant and of animal food all the way to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Additional options in the training are of Biotechnology and Bio-Processing Technology. In addition to the technical aspects, the course also addresses economic issues and teaches the relevant skills. The teaching is highly relevant to industry and application.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    The department's research activities offer a number of starting points for final dissertations and careers with internat. University partners in Finland, Ireland, Spain, Hungary, USA, including with the Cork Institute of Technology, Ireland and the University of Tenerife, Spain are offered PhD programmes for an international doctorate. Participation in the ERASMUS programme; Exchange programmes with USA and Australia; Food Technology PLUS (DAAD-funded integrated study abroad); "International Engineering Science" with basic semesters in English, EU placements

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    With 8 large technical facilities and laboratories, the department boasts a great deal of space and technical equipment. The subject areas of Food Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Physical Chemistry, Physics and Process Engineering are fully equipped with modern equipment which is generally oriented around the latest industrial applications and processes. The Pharmaceutical Technology department has a test laboratory for the certified acceptance of packaging. The focus here is on research into geriatric food and packaging.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    The department has established research cooperations with industrial and academic partners on a national and international level. The focus is both on the characterisation of functional foods and components and on the specific formulation of food applications. We collaborate with the Frankfurt University's children's hospital and the Elizabeth Hospital in London. One research area deals with geriatric food and packaging and the associated technological, nutritional and sensory challenges.
