  • Special features regarding teaching
    All assistant professors in the faculty of Life Sciences pursue an innovative and modern approach to teaching and seek further training in this area on a regular basis. Traditional forms of teaching such as lectures, seminars, exercises, projects or laboratory practicals are supplemented by modern teaching methods such as e-Learning. The Moodle learning platform gives students information on modules, classroom content, examinations and other study-related aspects. Three degree courses are taught in German, four in English.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    The faculty of Life Sciences attaches special importance to the international orientation of all degree courses. "Cross-cultural management/cross-cultural skills" is embedded as a compulsory module In all Bachelor's degree courses. Four courses are taught completely in English, three in German. Bachelor's degree students complete the compulsory practical experience as a practical semester abroad or a semester abroad at a university. The faculty has international partners in research and teaching, and the proportion of international students is continuously increasing.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The faculty of Life Sciences has excellent technical equipment as a young department. The laboratories have state-of-the-art equipment and software. This includes: Microscopy Centre, microbiological S2 laboratory, Climate House, Technical Centre for Food, Health and Nutrition, Technical Centre for Environmental Sciences, Laboratory for Biomedicine/Biophysics, Laboratory for Biotechnology, fluorescence microscopy and modern imaging procedures, video laboratory and PC pools for statistical calculations. There are adequate workstations in the laboratories available to students.

    Professors and staff of the faculty of Life Sciences are integrated in a diverse range of ongoing research projects in Germany and abroad. It is also possible to pursue applied research in company partnerships.     The faculty of Life Sciences brings together a range of different research areas and degree courses. This diversity is expressed in the course languages of German and English, in the mixture of national and international lecturers and students, in modern buildings with an accessible feel as well as in the state-of-the-art technical equipment for research and teaching.
