  • Special features regarding teaching
    Bionics offers broad scientific training that is integrated in the engineering sciences. Both the modules and assistant professors for the course pursue an interdisciplinary approach. The Bionics degree course at Bocholt is characterised by a high level of practical work in which the guided exploratory learning is paramount.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    Around one third of all Bachelor's theses are completed by students abroad every year. These are generally renowned research institutes or other universities.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The Bionics course was newly established in 2010. A building with chemistry, biology, sensor technology and lightweight construction laboratories was built especially for this degree course. In addition, students have access to the infrastructure of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, e.g. materials testing laboratory, drive technology laboratory. The high-quality laboratory and workshop equipment consists of Micro-CT, 3D printers, 3D scanners, a mechanical workshop, a computer pool, confocal microscope, tensile testing machine, electron microscope, high-speed cameras, and much more.
  • Special features regarding research and development
    In parallel to the Bionics degree course in Bocholt, the department of Mechanical Engineering also maintains the Westfälische Institut für Bionik (Westphalian Institute of Bionics) (www.bionik-institut.de). Here scientific and industrial projects are carried out by scientific staff. This gives students an opportunity to broaden their scientific background through research-based learning.
  • Other special features
    The Bocholt campus at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences is the smallest of the three campuses. For students, this means a manageable campus with short distances, personal relationships to teachers and an excellent student-teacher ratio.

(IntNatSci)= Interdisciplinary Applied Natural Sciences (IntDiscip)= very interdisciplinary and thus not classified;
As the ranking is done for the whole subject area, for the single "sub-subjects" it can happen that not all rank groups are represented in all criteria.
