Special features regarding teachingThe Energy and Biotechnology department offers application-oriented teaching on a broad scientific and engineering basis. Each theoretical course is complemented by practical lab classes to teach students not just knowledge but a wide range of skills as well. Project-oriented learning is anchored in all degree courses, because we believe that creativity and innovation only grow through experience and taking responsibility. As per curriculum, students choose their own specialisations.
-
Special features regarding the international orientationStrong links with the Baltic Sea region, Indonesia and Russia. Mandatory semesters abroad in some of the degree courses are actively pursued and lead to scientific cooperations for the department. Virtual semester abroad.
-
Special features regarding the equipmentIn addition to laboratories with modern equipment for basic subjects and areas of specialisation, the department also has a medium-voltage laboratory, its own wind turbine, a photovoltaic plant, a weather station, a technology centre for food products and a laboratory for sensor technology. Centre for analysis in technology transfer for biotech and food innovations
-
Special features regarding research and developmentThe department is broadly positioned in the fields of applied energy and energy transition research, wind energy research, quality development in the food industry and in marine biotechnology. Research projects on a regional, national and international level are connected with teaching and offer practical experience and early scientific development for students, but also consistent development of expertise for faculty teaching staff. The interdisciplinary structure of the department generates numerous synergies.
