  • Special features regarding teaching
Teaching in the Bachelor's degree course and in both Master's degree courses concentrates on those sub-areas of human geography and physical geography, respectively, in which the scientists have proven their comparative strengths in publications and externally funded projects. For this reason, a deliberate attempt is made not to cover the entire breadth of geography with the resources of a medium-sized geography location, but to enable students to specialise as early as possible in certain sub-areas in which geography in Hannover is strong.

Furthermore, numerous field devices (e.g. handheld GPS, field tablets) can be borrowed for own work. State-of-the-art techniques (UAV remote sensing with multiple drones, laser scanners) in teaching.
  • Special features regarding research activities

In all areas of geography, students have the opportunity at an early stage to work on a wide range of current national and international research projects in the context of theses, student projects, internships or as research assistants. The main areas of expertise include soil erosion research, ecosystem services, regional economic structural change, business start-ups, and diversification in large-scale farming.
