Special features regarding teachingThe university offers both individual as well as team coaching for newly appointed professors and lecturers. Teachers can also rely on extensive opportunities for continuing education (e.g. on topics such as skill orientation and problem-based learning). Teaching is characterised by high practical relevance. Lectures on Natural Science and technical topics are generally accompanied by practicals in laboratories. Bachelor's degree courses also include a practical semester which is carried out in a company or government authority.

Special features regarding the international orientationThe degree course in Biomedical Engineering (Master's) is conducted entirely in English and is therefore interesting for students from abroad. The university has an International Office which helps students who want to study abroad (e.g. with applications for an Erasmus study visit). Bachelor's students who are required to complete a practical semester can do this abroad. International exchange is promoted through partner universities abroad and participation in international networks (including CARPE).

Special features regarding the equipmentThe university has modern, well-equipped laboratories where practicals can be carried out to support lectures. The department of Medical Technology is also equipped with a simulation laboratory, an ambulance and an intensive station to be able to represent the emergency medical supply chain (from rescue through to transport all the way to the emergency room and treatment in the hospital). Through cooperation with companies, the department has a large collection of functional medical technology products.

Special features regarding research and developmentResearch projects are generally conducted in cooperation with companies and have, as a result, a high level of practical relevance (key areas are product development, product approval and market launch). Final student theses generally form integral components of these projects; this means students work on practically-relevant topics and the results they achieve can have a difference.
