Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
The special feature is the close integration of theory and practice. Students gain valuable insights into practical working methods through an integrated practical semester, project assignments, laboratory sessions and excursions. The foundation is composed of the construction disciplines traditionally anchored at the HFT: Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Physics and Surveying, as well as Business Administration. Industrial Engineering places the focus on construction and real estate: 50% civil engineering, 30% business administration, 20% legal subjects/key skills.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
WBI (Postgraduate Business for Engineers) students have access to over 70 partner universities. It is possible for the supervised practical study project or a semester to be completed abroad and be recognised.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Seven teaching and research laboratories, all with state-of-the-art equipment, are available to students. In addition to compulsory and voluntary laboratory practicals, these facilities offer the opportunity to acquire additional qualifications, e.g. the first part of the training for the international welding engineer. All of the facilities and test benches of the Institute for Applied Research are available with their competent staff to students for final theses.
  • Special features regarding research and development
The degree course WBI conducts research in particular in the field of Sustainable Construction (which has its own professorship entitled "Construction and Energy"). Students benefit in many ways from these activities: the latest research findings are incorporated directly into teaching, and students are involved in the thought process and can be involved as assistants and through their final theses.

  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
These students are supported by the HFT where needed, e.g. when applying for aids and support staff, parking permits. Loans or grants can be requested via the student union/friends and alumni association. An exemption from tuition fees can be requested. Students who cannot complete exams in the prescribed format can file for an exemption. An extension may be requested where the studies cannot be completed in the prescribed time frame.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
The WBI programme offers all students networking, exchange (e.g. IWS association, business fairs), advice and a broad educational programme, such as semesters abroad, practical events at the Didactics Centre of the HFT. Academic and non-academic staff benefit from Erasmus+ and the HFT Didactics Centre for specific continuing education and professional development purposes.
