Special features regarding teachingThe courses offered are oriented towards the regional potential for development and the requirements of industry. This ensures an essential contribution is made towards professional development. There are courses still in development which are flexible, inter-disciplinary and practice-oriented, designed to respond to new developments in and modified requirements of the market.
Special features regarding the international orientationInternational training is very important at the HRW. It is our aim that as many HRW students as possible have the opportunity to spend part of their studies abroad. For example, this may be the case for an 18-week practical semester or during a voluntary work placement.
Special features regarding the equipmentIn the laboratory of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, test benches for the subject areas of Materials Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Sensor and Actuator Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing and Assembly are installed in an area of approx. 500 square metres. The state-of-the-art computer laboratory ensures modern teaching in the fields of CAD, CAM, Simulation and Computer Science. Even where there are no direct lab practicals in specific programmes, subject-specific contexts are created through lab demonstrations in the courses.
Special features regarding research and developmentThe research profile for Department 3 is primarily practical and application-related. The Institute of Mechanical Engineering aims to offer a holistic overview of industrial small batch production. This ensures the focus of the academic orientation is on the entire product life cycle, from the initial idea to the production, to recycling. Aspects such as construction, simulation and production are thereby covered using an inter-disciplinary approach by the various competencies of the Institute.
