Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
Teaching by the CORE principle: 5-week units; Learning, teaching and exam methods/modes are geared consistently to the learning objectives; Personal responsibility of students; Extensive support for students provided by lecturers acting as mentors and coaches; Employability; Innovation and research.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
In the 2016/2017 winter semester, three Social Work students are selected to complete a work placement at a school in Mombasa. In addition, all students can focus on international issues in practical projects. In future semesters we plan to establish further partnerships with international social work institutions, and we generally encourage all students to spend part of their studies abroad.
  • Website with further information on research activities
  • Support for founders
In cooperation with the Hamm Academic Society, the SRH offers students a business ideas competition, where they receive all important information on business start-ups and can present their own business ideas. To this end, students develop their own business ideas as well as concepts for implementing them. Students with the best ideas will then be supported financially.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
The first point of contact for students and prospective students with disabilities and/or special circumstances is Ms Schmitz, who works at Student Services. Ms Schmitz is supported by the Social Sciences Institute, allowing for modern inclusivity principles to be transferred into university practice.
  • Other special features
Teaching by the CORE principle – teaching by thematic fields rather than subjects; Small study groups to ensure optimal support; Innovative study programme – based on the SRH’s 40 years of academic experience.
