Special features regarding teachingThe Business Informatics programmes provide a solid education in computer science. All courses are supplemented by intensively supervised practical sessions and projects in small groups. The training is practice-oriented and is enriched by a practical semester and practical projects at companies. The transfer of new research findings to teaching is guaranteed by the close integration of applied research and teaching.

Special features regarding the international orientationThe Faculty places special emphasis on partnerships in English-speaking regions, as well as on exchange programmes with Asia and Latin America. Student and staff mobility is encouraged in multiple ways by the international representatives of the programmes and the university’s International Office.

Special features regarding the equipmentThe Computer Science courses operate joint labs with different subject areas. This covers system-related topics from Wireless LANs, Distributed Systems, System Programming and Home Automation, Software Engineering through to application-oriented problems in Digital Image Processing and Visualisation, Computer Vision and Mixed Reality, Mobile Applications and Enterprise Content Management. Likewise, 6 computer rooms are available for practical courses and independent practice.

Special features regarding research and developmentThe research projects are combined under the key research area “Intelligent Systems for People and Technology”. This reflects one of the faculty's strengths: the interdisciplinary and holistic view of practical research questions. The research focuses on intelligent, i.e. secure, IT systems that are easy to use and that adapt to the individual characteristics and environments of the users. The topic of the key research area is characterised by a high degree of timeliness and social relevance. IT systems today permeate all aspects of life.

Support for foundersThe Competence & Career Centre of the RheinMain University offers students who are in interested in business start-ups free entrepreneurship advice as well as an elective module “Business Start-Up” and various information sessions. There is also a founding ambassador at the department.

Other special featuresThe Computer Science degree course is located together with the Media Management and Design Courses in a common department so that interdisciplinary projects are possible.
