Special features regarding teachingThe FHM organises its programmes by trimesters. Thanks to the FHM competence model, the curricula are interdisciplinary, academically compact and application-oriented. Small study groups and study group supervisors enable individual support for each student. Close integration of theory and practice is achieved by practical projects integrated in the course, a close network with medium-sized companies and practical experience of the teaching staff.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe FHM is anchored in the region and, as the partner of a globally expanding SME, also internationally oriented. The aim is to support SMEs in the internationalisation process through qualifying and promoting young executives on the basis of international experience and international research projects. The FHM maintains 60 partnerships, particularly with Asian and British universities, and a German-Asian SME Institute (DAMI). This is in particular demand among international Master's students.
Special features regarding the equipmentThere are several PC pools with the latest hardware and software available to the students, which can be used in courses and practical projects; The entire university is equipped with WiFi. The equipment in the seminar rooms is state of the art (projectors, whiteboards, etc.). The media campus with news, TV, radio and photo studios is available to all students. All students have online access to the Statista statistics portal.
Special features regarding research and developmentThe research and development concept of the FHM with its interdisciplinary, subject-independent research approach is mainly focused on SME research and can be divided into the following areas: Entrepreneurship, sustainability, media/digitalisation, education/skills, health/tourism and human resources. The FHM's research and development is designed as independent individual research and contract-based project research. Students are integrated into these research projects and their evaluation. The results of the research projects are included in the teaching.

Support for foundersThe Start-Ups module with a final exam in business plan development is compulsory for all students. The FHM has set up an Institute for Start-Ups and Company Succession as an interdisciplinary, application-oriented research facility. Practical seminars and personal coaching sessions allow for start-up expertise and concepts to be utilised for succession arrangements. Our specialists from research and teaching are available to you. The IUG is also open to interested parties from outside the university.
Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsThe FHM wants to make studying accessible for everyone, and is thus characterised by individual support and advice. This starts already with the selection process, where solutions for barrier-free access are worked out in a personal conversation with students with impairments. In formal terms, the statutory equalisation of disadvantages is implemented by the FHM exam regulations. All locations and facilities provide barrier-free access.
Characteristics of diversity advancementGender-appropriate teaching and research are enshrined in the FHM mission statement. The processes are designed in a gender-appropriate, cross-cultural manner free of discrimination. The FHM has ranked for years at the top of the CEWS rankings on gender equality at universities, because the majority (79%) of the academic staff are women, and a third of professors are women.
Other special featuresSpecific prior qualifications under DQR, level 6 (industrial and master craftsperson, state-certified technician, certified technical business administrator) are part of admissions requirements and are recognised as 105 credit points. The trimester structure makes for a compact study experience. The FHM organises the studies in small study groups and provides timetables, ensuring sufficient capacities for each module. Teachers recruited from industry allow for an optimal transfer of knowledge between the universities and companies.
