  • Special features regarding teaching
Lecturers from universities and colleges in the region teach together with the permanent lecturers and practitioners from the companies, which means that in addition to experienced professors for teaching the basics, up-to-date developments are also brought in. The programme is based on a competence model that defines 64 skills and is enshrined in the curriculum across all modules. Theory and practice are closely interconnected, with theory being followed by practical application, creating a consolidated learning effect.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The partnership with the Nehemiha Gateway University allows IBS students to take modules abroad as part of a summer school and to have these credits recognised at the IBS Oldenburg. In addition, various courses are taught in English. Various teachers at the IBS have experience in international research projects and industry partnerships, publish regular papers in English and incorporate this experience in their teaching at the IBS. Partner companies with foreign locations allow for international deployment during practical phases.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
    Nehemia Gateway University (NGU), Albanien.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
24/7/365 access to rooms incl. library. Workstations are equipped with sockets, LAN connectors and high-quality furniture. Two HD projectors per room and virtual whiteboard systems allow parallel use of media. WiFi across the campus. Various software partnerships include, e.g. MS Office, Windows and Oracle DBMS. IBS e-learning platform provides course materials in electronic form, for example. Free use of network printers, coffee, etc. Access to the library and all university databases. Use of the IT infrastructure/admin of the OFFIS Computer Science Institute.
  • Special features regarding research and development
The current state of research and technology is continuously brought into the modules by science lecturers.
  • Support for founders
Entrepreneurship is an integral part of the curriculum. Furthermore, students have access to the services of the Technology and Incubator Centre TGO as well as the entrepreneurship advisory services of the University of Oldenburg. The related Computer Science OFFIS Institute has ample experience with successful spin-offs, e.g. in the context of EXIST grant applications. Some partner companies of the IBS Oldenburg run their own units for realising start-ups.
  • Other special features
Local anchoring – regionalism – and the proximity to students and our network partners are particularly important. Transparency is a key aspect at the IBS Oldenburg. We are always available to our students, and respect them as individuals – we know all of them by name. This service and support in any form is especially important to us.
