Special features regarding teachingInternational Fashion Retail combines business administration expertise with the specialisation in trade, qualified for leadership tasks or a professional career. The study conditions in this economic programme are excellent due to the small number of places, its textile technological equipment and the business administration components included in the curriculum. Professors and lecturers know the industry and work with students on trade/industry projects. Networking with the industry works very well.

Special features regarding the international orientationThe globally networked textile industry depends on leaders that can move on the international stage. The programme is highly international in its orientation. There are courses in English, a semester taught in English and a compulsory semester abroad at one of our numerous partner universities. In addition, there is an excursion abroad each semester. Most recently to Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Paris, Milan, Turkey and the USA. International representatives are available.

Special features regarding the equipmentOur students have access to the worldwide unique machine park in the Textiles course (textile machines, testing machines). The retail laboratory has Eye Tracking systems for e-commerce analysis and numerous tools for empirical work in Business Administration. Students can access statistical systems, the industry-leading WGSN Fashion Forecasting and further databases. There are, of course, also computer rooms. Our multifunctional learning centre in the centre of the Reutlingen campus is open to all students.

Special features regarding research and developmentSustainability as a key research area in Business Administration with the following highly current topics: Green Fashion Retail (including current book project); sustainability in the textile industry. Furthermore, research is carried out on the topic of "Emotionalising in fashion retail" and "Fashion and music". This is done in collaboration with national and international universities. Two doctorates in these areas were completed in 2019.

Support for foundersA training/practice company is being established. Students themselves operate a business. In doing so, they rely on individual coaching, including coaching provided by industry experts. A founding officer of the faculty and the university's Centre for Entrepreneurship advise and accompany the students. The IHK Chamber of Industry and Commerce also provides on advisory services. Since winter semester 2016, there has been project funding to further expand the activities (start-up platform, seminars, start-up evenings, competitions). The aim is to motivate students for entrepreneurship. Furthermore, the “Business Plan Development” module is offered for 5 ECTS.
