Special features regarding teachingResearch Project degree. All courses of study include 2 mandatory projects of 12 or 18 ECTS, which are usually carried out in teams of 2-6 students, supervised by staff, tutors and professors in the context of current research topics. Many projects result in publications. Several projects are interdisciplinary (e.g. with students from product design, architecture, media design). The projects promote independence and the ability to work in a team as well as self-organisation and are rated by graduates as an essential part of their studies.

Special features regarding the equipmentThe Digital Bauhaus Lab is an interdisciplinary research centre for scientists from computer science and civil engineering as well as artists. In addition to the project laboratories of each individual professorship, additional state-of-the-art laboratories for research and final theses are available in the DBL on approx. 300 m²: User Interface Development Lab, Human-Computer Interaction Lab, Computer Vision Lab, Computer Graphics Lab, Virtual Reality Lab, Multi-User 3D Display, Visual Analytics Display.

Special features regarding research activitiesTogether with the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Media Informatics supports the research focus "Digital Engineering". The professors of the degree course are continuously involved in many national (DFG, BMBF, Thuringia) and EU projects. Students work as research assistants on current research topics and thus also come into contact with company partners.

Support for foundersSince 2001, the neudeli start-up workshop has been the central contact point for students, graduates and employees of all four faculties of the university who are interested in starting a business. It advises, coaches and offers mentoring for start-up teams and supports applications for funding, in particular for EXIST start-up grants. In 2011, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, together with Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, received the award "EXIST-Gründerkultur - Die Gründerhochschule" (EXIST Start-up Culture - The Start-up University) and has since been funded by the BMWi to establish a start-up culture on a sustainable basis at both locations.

Other special featuresThe English-language Master's degree courses are internationally oriented with over 60% foreign students. A native English speaker on the faculty offers "Academic English" courses. Alternatively, courses can be taken at the Language Centre. There is the welcome service of the International Office as well as individual counselling by the "Counselling Office" of the Faculty of Media. There is a student tutor who answers questions and helps with administrative matters and questions about studying. Some advanced courses in the Bachelor and many projects take place in English.
