  • Special features regarding teaching
The teaching in RASUM is very problem-oriented. Scientists from various disciplines and representatives from companies and other organisations jointly developed the concept of the study programme. It combines methodological questions on how to deal with risks with the challenges that arise from the guiding principle of sustainable development, taking into account both social and organisational governance aspects. It also builds on the international discussion on didactics of transdisciplinary teaching.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The German UNSESCO Commission recognised the concept of the course in 2014 as an official project of the World Decade "Education for Sustainable Development". The award was renewed in 2017 and 2019, each in the highest category. The Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences is therefore an outstanding "learning place" for sustainable development. Practical projects are carried out with international companies from Germany (VAUDE, Tettnang and Tchibo, Hamburg) and abroad (LEAR, Detroit / USA). The teaching also has international references; for example the SDGs of the UN.
  • Exchange universities for stay abroads
Universiatät La Sapienza, Rom, Italien; Universität Kattowitz, Polen; Blekinge Institute of Technology, Schweden.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Students have access to databases for life cycle analysis (LCA) and to the RASUM glossary in Moodle, which includes all courses: In addition to explanations of terms from different disciplinary perspectives, it also offers direct access to key publications. A guide with "Notes on scientific work" and pre-formatted and structured files for homework help you get started with sophisticated scientific work. There is "accompanying quality assurance" for both homework and the MA thesis.
  • Special features regarding research and development
The department has established the "Initiative for Sustainable Development in h_da" (i: ne). This resulted in the research centre "Sustainable processes and procedures" (fz npv or f: ne). With the research group sofia, the FB has a nationally and internationally renowned research network. The BMBF project s: ne offers research-based transfer in the context of sustainable development. H_da has been able to award the title of Doctor of Sustainability Sciences (Dr. rer. Sust) since 2019; so far this is unique in Germany (doctoral centre, also p: ne).
  • Support for founders
Graduates from RASUM have the opportunity to work on orders in the Steinbeis transfer company "RASUM Solutions" together with other graduates and under professional guidance. They benefit from the experience gained from the practical projects.
