  • Special features regarding teaching
    Our architecture course focuses on design and planning. Knowledge acquired about typology, construction, historical development and social context is merged with illustration and design skills at an early stage and applied to solve planning problems. Design is developed and taught as a core skill in projects of an increasingly complex nature. Conceptual thinking, creativity, interdisciplinarity, consideration of sustainability and the inclusion of new academic fields are promoted through assigned sub-projects.

    Offer of the Franco-German double degree, wide range of Erasmus exchange options, networking of the teaching staff in the European higher education area, Joint International Seminar
  • Special features regarding the equipment
    PC pools with 20 workstations with 1 to 2 monitors apiece; Digital whiteboards in classrooms and study rooms; Departmental LaserCut and plot service; Workshop for model building with classic tools for processing wood, plaster and plastic; Makerspace (SLUB) as an open, creative space with 3D printers, various cutters, 3D object scanners and much more.; Learning space for colour; Collections: Theory of colours, map collection, architectural history collection; Extensive access to specialist databases (centrally via SLUB)

    Our key areas of research are: renovation and redevelopment of existing properties, revitalisation of historical buildings; building climate-optimised construction and refurbishment; sustainability of buildings in the life cycle, including disassembly; Sustainable urban development, user participation in urban planning; Knowledge architecture; architecture in demographic change and demographically sustainable usability; The department is also involved in interdisciplinary research projects and facilities within TU Dresden and beyond.

    Start-up service (central offer) – dresden|exists, with evaluation of ideas, development of business models, networking with investors and experts, qualification of prospective founders in workshops and incubator programmes; TransferOffice of TU Dresden for spin-offs
  • Other special features
    The faculty also offers the following: Counselling and introductory event for the transition into the more elective stage II studies phase; Courses for the acquisition of key skills (compulsory part of the curriculum); Trial and preliminary examinations as well as tutorials to prepare for exams; work placement exchange for voluntary and compulsory work placements; Guest lectures and wide ranging lecture series also open to the public. TU Dresden also provides central offers for students with children, for students with disabilities and chronic diseases, as well as an alumni programme.
