Special features regarding teachingThe department teaches students technical, design and methodological skills to tackle design, planning and construction tasks. Architecture, interior design, civil engineering and virtual design are processes which make visible and effectuate individual interests as well as social conditions. The objective is to provide practice-oriented teaching. The degree course provides specialist training combined with general educational content.
Special features regarding the international orientationIn addition to the possibility of participating in the Erasmus programme, students also have the opportunity to attend various workshops and participate in cooperations. The AR degree course also supports the "ars" Summer School of the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, which includes a workshop in Florence. This is attended by both professors and students of the AR degree course. Additional cooperations with Qingdao University and Saint Petersburg State University are offered regularly.

Special features regarding research and developmentThe Building and Design department takes an innovative approach at all scale levels of the developed living space. The core areas of the department include research and knowledge transfer, the application possibilities of new technologies, materials, design processes and learning methods; this is applied and developed further in small and large research projects.
