  • Special features regarding teaching
The teaching focuses on the experimental design of solutions to complex challenges in open discourse on spatial-aesthetic concepts, constructive-technical innovations and the significance of social, ecological and economic issues. In the context of the integrated project design, in-depth basic knowledge and the ability for interdisciplinary work are taught, which is supplemented with practice and research orientation. Architecture is taught as a combination of structural thinking, specialist knowledge and methodology, social responsibility and artistic creativity.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
For many years, students have regularly attended international summer schools (e.g. Milan Polytechnic, Campus Piacenza), cooperative workshops have been organised (e.g. University of Lyon, University of Cyprus) and joint design seminars offered (Nanjing University/China). The following are carried out regularly: Excursions to various places of particular cultural and architectural importance abroad, invitations of international guest speakers to the "positionen" lecture series and of guest critics and experts on design projects and the organisation of internships.

Topics are experimental design with parametric-generative programs, innovative construction methods, sustainable and resource-saving construction methods, development of building technology-integrating components and questions of aesthetic design regarding the history and typology of performance venues. Selected students contribute to the research projects. Student papers are regularly included in transfer projects.
  • Other special features
Students take part in competitions and regularly receive awards with top placings and honourable mentions of their designs and contributions. The endowed Bremmer Prize for architectural student work has been organised by the faculty for over 20 years. The FLEX project is an integrated teaching and research project on innovative construction and manufacturing methods that combines research, teaching and experiments. Exhibitions and specialist publications (print and digital) are used intensively as an tool of communication with interested parties.
