Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
We offer specialised degree courses that are based on general principles so that graduates have the best possible prospects for careers in various disciplines.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
International exchange of students and lecturers is well-supported at our university. There are good contacts to universities abroad, including in China and South Africa.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
As a still young university (founded in 1998), we have very good basic technological equipment. Special highlights are the magnetic resonance imaging and various laser systems. The computer equipment is continually upgraded to meet the requirements.
  • Special features regarding research and development
We currently have 2 research professorships in the field of Laser Engineering. Also worthy of mention is the research competence in the field of Biomathematics. The focus here is on genetic codes that are relevant for cancer research. We also have a Fraunhofer Application Centre on campus that is headed up by a colleague from the department. Here the focus is air-supported sensors, i.e. detecting toxins for a flyover with a gyroplane.
  • Other special features
The department expanded its Master's degree course in Applied Physics starting in the WS15/16 so that it is carried out in cooperation with the university. The graduates then obtain a joint degree from both universities.
