Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
Modern teaching and learning methods such as problem-and project-based learning, where specific tasks and projects are worked on in small groups and teams; research and application-oriented project seminars; Interdisciplinary Master's theses with intensive, individual supervision (partly in cooperation with industry); High degree of international orientation through compulsory foreign language teaching element (English)and internationally oriented course content; mobility window implemented for optional study abroad at a partner university.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Mostly international students and international teachers; Courses are taught exclusively in English.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
The Engineering institutes of the TUHH have highly modern laboratory equipment available to the students to use for their work. In particular, a "model factory" is available, in which the production processes are studied and planned in detail. In the field of Maritime Logistics, state-of-the-art simulation equipment is also used in teaching and in the framework of the Master's theses. A learning lab with the latest technical equipment is available for planning games and interactive group sessions according to the problem-based-learning concept.
  • Special features regarding research activities
Key areas in research include, above all, Logistics and Mobility as well as Technology and Innovation Management. Students can participate in current research activities in these, and also other fields of business administration (e.g. marketing, controlling, operations research, etc.) engineering sciences (depending on the chosen specialisation, e.g. Process Engineering and Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering and many more), in the form of supplementary projects, project seminars and Master's theses.
  • Website with further information on research activities
  • Support for founders
Specialisation through the compulsory elective module “E-Track” (Entrepreneurial Management) over the entire course of study, including development of a full business plan and advisory start-up support.
  • Other special features
Since 1999, the Northern Institute of Technology Management has offered students a double degree option in public-private partnership with the TUHH. Students can combine an Engineering degree with a degree in Business Administration and graduate with two degrees simultaneously (MSc in an Engineering subject and MBA or Master's in Technology Management). This privately organised, practice-related programme is sponsored by industry through the provision of scholarships and thereby supplements the course at the TUHH. It is aimed at exceptionally qualified graduates of a Bachelor's degree.
