  • Special features regarding the equipment
120 networked computer workstations with 19’’ flat screens, 5 DIN A0 plotters and 4 laser printers. In addition, a 5D lab (a learning and working environment) with VR camera. The library's media offerings: 132,432 books and other media, 426 subscriptions (specialist journals, daily and weekly news publications), 250 films on DVD, 33,591 e-nooks, 22,985 e-journals, 1,600 training videos (Video2Brain), 36 databases (WISO, WTI, IEEE,...). Other laboratories: Building materials and solid construction, building physics and noise protection, foundation engineering and soil mechanics, model making, residential water management, surveying and road sector
  • Special features regarding research and development
The department's professors head the research projects in all areas of civil and environmental engineering. The focus is on composite and steel structures for wind turbines and transport facilities, environmental issues in water management and residential water management, and road safety. They are mainly integrated into the cross-departmental competence centres of the THM: AutoM: Competence centre for automotive, mobility and materials research; ZEuUS: Competence centre for energy and environmental system technology; 10 PhD students are currently being supervised; Two completed cooperative doctorates in the years 2015-2017
  • Support for founders
Many professors are active in company start-ups and contribute their expertise. One example of this is TransMIT GmbH, a joint project of the universities and Volksbanks in central Hesse with more than 160 sub-centres, with some 7,000 scientists and 160 staff. Some of the department's professors head various sub-centres and create a technology and knowledge oriented environment, which is regionally oriented and which produce a lot of start-ups. Another example is the so-called 5D institute, initiated by the FB.
  • Other special features
The professors of the degree course meet monthly for internal coordination. Here, information is exchanged at a variety of levels: Here, state policy, university policy and departmental news are discussed openly and transparently and joint approaches are defined.
