  • Special features regarding teaching
    Teaching in this area is characterised by traditional and newly developed interdisciplinary degree courses. Following in-depth basic training students can choose between different specialisations. These include structural engineering, construction operations, environmental management in conurbations, mobility management and real estate management. The practical training is guaranteed by an extensive network of companies from the construction industry, project development and project management, public institutions and private consultants.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    Regular exchange programmes, summer schools and visiting lectureships support teaching and ensure an international orientation of the degree courses. The cooperation partners include universities in Rijka, Split, Zagreb (Croatia), Krakow (Poland), Dubai (UAE), Windhoek (Namibia), Valparaiso (Chile). Other special features includes: A growing network of partner universities, integration of mobility windows in the degree courses, a high degree of flexibility in the crediting of CPs acquired abroad. The department has its own International Office.

  • Special features regarding the equipment
    The degree courses of the department have a large number of laboratories, which are used intensively both in practice-related teaching and for research. Timber construction, solid construction, residential water management, geotechnical engineering, surveying, hydraulic engineering, construction and room acoustics and staircase construction laboratories all deserve a special mention. All laboratories are used across disciplines and courses and are an important element for innovative research projects and for the acquisition of third-party funding.

    The key research areas (resource-saving construction, development of new materials and construction methods and infrastructure planning in metropolitan regions and Sustainability in Metropolitan Areas (SU Metropol) with the topics durability and resource efficiency, economic efficiency and ethical compatibility, climate and environment, security and health, space and infrastructure as well as society and identity) contribute to securing the future viability of metropolitan regions. Various research projects and doctorates are carried out in these fields and third-party funding is raised; One completed cooperative doctorate in the years 2015-2017
