  • Special features regarding teaching
    The merging of the departments of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Wuppertal into one faculty meets society's demand for more interdisciplinary training in order to promote building culture and improve the outcomes of the added value chain in construction.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    The faculty maintains a special cooperation with Wuhan University (China). Every year, Chinese students are given a language and subject-specific aptitude test by representatives of the Berg. Universität Wuppertal in Wuhan (China) and approx. 15-20 suitable students are selected to come to Wuppertal for a Bachelor's degree, generally followed by a Master's degree. The faculty has an involvement in construction engineering in the university-level qualification of the academic teaching staff at the Namibia University of Science and Technology.

    The faculty is setting up a Building Information Modelling (BIM) laboratory for integrated training of architects and civil engineers. Further laboratories include: Building material/concrete laboratory, waste and residential water management laboratory; soil management lab; Laboratory for soil mechanics and soil and foundation engineering: Road construction laboratory; steel construction lab; hydraulic engineering laboratory, VR laboratory.

  • Other special features
    All teaching is in German. This decision was taken as a conscious step following in-depth analysis. Experience in teaching with large numbers of foreign students with an inadequate command of English has shown that good knowledge transfer is more important that gaining skills in an international context. In elective areas, bilingual course documents are provided in addition or corresponding international sources are used. The content is, however, discussed in German.
