Special features regarding teachingThe department has laboratory buildings at its disposal with fully-equipped laboratories for use in the laboratory practicals. Close integration of teaching and research. Wide range of master's degree programmes (Water Engineering, Engineering Geology, Energy-Efficient Construction and Renovation). The Master's degree course in Civil Engineering includes the specialisations Structural Civil Engineering and Civil and Traffic Engineering.

Special features regarding the international orientationThe department maintains a range of international cooperation agreements. The department and prospective students are supported by the International Office of the Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal. Generally one or two foreign excursions per year (e.g. to China, Russia, Jordan, USA, Denmark).

Special features regarding the equipmentThe department has a laboratory buildings with highly modern, fully equipped laboratories for Hydraulic Engineering, Recycling and Waste Disposal Management, Construction Mechanics, Building Physics, Construction Materials Science, Building Component Testing, Soil Materials, Geo-engineering, Road Construction, Photogrammetry, Surveying, Non-Destructive Testing and Fire Protection as well as very well-equipped computer labs (software and hardware) and seminar rooms.

Special features regarding research and developmentThe department has close ties to national and regional businesses and administrative institutions. This results in numerous research projects (e.g. BMBF and ZIM as well as DAAD). The research topics tend to focus on sustainability and future issues (e.g. building materials, infrastructure systems, environment) and are carried out with the involvement of students as student and research assistants. Research funded by third parties also includes contract research.

Support for foundersStudents and future graduates with ambitions to set up a business are in close contact with the Career Center, the Technology and Knowledge Transfer Centre as well as the start-up and transfer promotion service ("gründet") of the university.
