  • Special features regarding teaching
The degree courses in the department have always been characterised by a high proportion of activating forms of teaching and student mentoring programmes are an integral part of the curriculum. Project seminars, during which students work in groups on openly formulated problems, have been used in the department for 50 years. With the introductory project, such teaching forms are a fixed component of the initial study phase. After the reopening and new construction of various institute buildings, the department has approx. 1,000 m² of space for student study centres.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The department has links with a large number of universities in Europe and elsewhere. Students can choose between double degrees and 1- or 2-semester stays abroad. Scientists use the lively exchange with their partner institutes to position their research work internationally. The English-language Master's degree ICE makes the department very attractive for international students. Mentoring programmes and individual support ensure that students integrate well into the degree system.

  • Support for founders
Students have entrepreneurship modules available to them as part of the curriculum. In this context, the department has contacts with HIGHEST, the innovation and start-up centre of TU Darmstadt. Four company start-ups from the department since the last CHE survey demonstrate the success of these measures.
