  • Special features regarding teaching
The teaching evaluation is stipulated in the quality assurance regulations of TUHH and contributes significantly to the constant improvement of teaching. Measures to improve teaching (e.g. e-learning) are supported by the Zentrum für Lehre und Lernen (Teaching and Learning Centre, ZLL). The ZLL promotes the development of modern teaching methods based on science within the engineering sciences and aims to create the institutional framework for good teaching. In this way, a whole series of courses have been re-designed through innovative teaching ideas to the benefit of the students.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
TUHH is a founding member of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities. It cooperates with more than 50 partner universities worldwide in research and teaching so as to enable all interested students to spend a qualified period of time studying abroad. Specially created advice centre for the support of exchange students within the department. Wide range of courses held in English, internationally oriented course content as well as international Master’s degree courses.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
TUHH, founded as the most northerly technical university in Germany, is one of the most innovative and modern universities of the Federal Republic of Germany. Since its founding in 1978, TUHH has pursued future-oriented approaches in research, teaching and technology transfer. TUHH is a campus university where everything is close together enabling fast access to facilities. It has a modern, well-equipped computer centre, an up-to-date library and a whole series of learning spaces which are only available to students.
  • Special features regarding research activities
The areas of research focus are in the areas of Cyber Physical Systems, Medical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, Communication Systems, Power Engineering Systems Green Technologies. Special fields of application also result from proximity to local industry, e.g. the aircraft industry (Airbus). A large project exists in the field of integrated optoelectronic systems. There is close cooperation with non-university institutions, such as the University Hospital of Eppendorf (UKE), German Electron Synchrotron (DESY), Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht.
  • Support for founders
The Startup Dock start-up centre initiated by the TUHH has been supporting innovative startups from the university sector since 2013. Startup Dock advises and supports students, scientists and alumni of Hamburg's universities and research institutions in the realisation of their technological and knowledge-based business ideas. With individual coaching and one-on-one support as well as teaching and training sessions, it provides the teams involved with the support they need during the early stage of their company start-up.
  • Other special features
Since 2003, TUHH has been the first technical university in Germany to offer a dual course of study under the title of dual@TUHH in cooperation with NORDMETALL. The programme combines theory at university level with practice in renowned industrial companies in northern Germany and is supplemented by exclusive social competence seminars. dual@TUHH students gain a full engineering degree at the TUHH and can complete their studies with a bachelor’s of science degree (6 semesters) or an optional master's of science degree (4 semesters).
