Special features regarding teaching
The courses consist of lectures / exercises / seminars / internships / group work; teaching with modern media (including digital lecture hall) accompanied by a large online offer with accompanying documents and additional offers; many of the courses are accompanied by tutorials; integration of practical tasks in teaching, research and development.
Special features regarding the international orientation
The Hamm-Lippstadt University has partnerships around the world and participates in exchange programmes in connection with Erasmus and summer schools at various universities. Most of the programmes require a semester or work placement abroad in the 5th semester (without extending the regular study period), while the other programmes allow for an optional semester abroad; some courses are offered in English.
Special features regarding the equipment
Vehicle hall for electromobility / battery-operated electric vehicle (BEV) / robotics (including humanoid robot) / modular production system (MPS) for modelling industrial production processes / surface analysis / scanning electron microscope / scanning force microscopy / 3D computer tomography / optics laboratories / light channel (horizontal and vertical) / materials characterisation and tribology / thermography / tensile test with temperature chamber / dynamic stability control (DSC) / thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) / grinding techniques including ion etching / 3D printers for plastics / electron beam lithography.
Special features regarding research and development
A feature of all research projects is the interdisciplinary approach thanks to its structural organisation with 4 interdisciplinary departments, rooms and laboratories are not assigned to people, departments or faculties, but to fields of activity. Research projects frequently have high practical relevance. Projects: Development of tribology measurement device/ageing of plastics under blue LED radiation/use of biopolymers in optical components.
Support for founders
At its Lippstadt premises, HSHL offers the Master’s programme “Technical Entrepreneurship and Innovation”, which is of special interest to prospective entrepreneurs. The topic is dealt with in a variety of ways. A business ideas competitions for students is held and start-up grants are available for students as well as additional contact points such as the Entrepreneurclub, the Science 2 Business Lab and a consulting company for students. The HSHL is a partner in the joint project StartUP.InnoLab, and a cooperation partner in the non-profit initiative STARTUP TEENS and offers a comprehensive network.
Other special features
We are still a young university with excellent equipment and state-of-the-art facilities (lecture halls and labs) and numerous study areas (for group or single work) in the new buildings which we moved into in 2014 on our double campus in Hamm and Lippstadt. We offer market-oriented and practice-related courses, openness, tolerance, team orientation and high demands from the start. Existing partnerships offer many possibilities for innovation.
