Special features regarding teachingGeneralist basic concept with possibilities of individual profile formation; high practical relevance; Interdisciplinarity; promotion of methodological skills; soft skill promotion through team-oriented work; business simulation games. The presence degree course in Industrial Engineering course (B.Sc.) offers the specialisations "Technical Sales" and "Production Management". In the practice-integrated programme (B.Eng.), which offers the three specialisations Electrical Engineering, Automation and Mechanical Engineering, practical phases at companies alternate with theory phases at the university.

Special features regarding the international orientationThe International Academic Office of the FH Bielefeld advises students on study visits abroad and financing options and places them at foreign partner universities. The EU programme LEONARDO DA VINCI is also available to promote work placements of graduates in EU countries. Scholarships for periods abroad (e.g. ERASMUS) are available to students, graduates, teachers and non-academic staff from a variety of programmes, among them also the education programmes of the European Union. Special features regarding the equipmentBy integrating the courses into the overall "Engineering and Mathematics" department, there is the possibility of access to numerous laboratories of other interdisciplinary courses, e.g laboratory for electrotechnical system development, laboratory for production technology and factory planning, image processing, robotics, innovation and quality management, logistics; modern laboratory equipment through cooperation with industrial companies; additional rooms for free student work, project and presentation preparations, media service.

Special features regarding research and developmentIn the department, great importance is attached to the fact that research projects are interdisciplinary and that the scientists involved work together on an interdisciplinary basis.

Support for foundersThe Bielefeld Initiative for Start-Ups is a partnership of Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of East Westphalia in Bielefeld. This initiative has offered lectures on start-up-relevant topics since the 2014/15 winter semester. There are also monthly start-up consultation days in Bielefeld and Minden. Potential founders can obtain individual advice right on site by Chamber of Commerce and Industry staff.
