Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
The courses teach Natural and Engineering Sciences principles as well as mathematical principles of Process and Energy Engineering. The students acquire basic knowledge of Economics and Business Administration in the fields of Marketing, Financial Policy, Legal Issues, Investment and Finance and develop a holistic perspective, which enables them to independently recognise technical relationships and identify and solve problems. A wide range of required electives enables highly flexible design options for each of the degree courses.
  • Common partner universities for exchange
Purdue University, USA; Universidad de Oviedo, Spain; University of Technology in Prague; Universidad del Atlantico, Colombia, Tampere University, Finland; Universidad Nacional del Sur, Argentina.
  • Special features regarding the equipment
Use of technical equipment in the institutes at the Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering for teaching in these degree courses.
  • Special features regarding research activities
Specialisation: Process Engineering researches, develops and implements ecologically viable material conversion procedures to create valuable products with the help of physical, biological or chemical reactions from raw materials. Thus, from fine chemicals come medicinal products, from oil comes functional plastics, from stone, construction materials and glass, from metal ores, waste recycled materials and energy, from sand, silicon chips and from agricultural raw materials, food, to name only a few examples. In addition, there is a close cooperation with the Max Planck Institute.
  • Research topics reflected in teaching
Individual energy-saving measures, sustainable energy development, active ingredient research, new materials, networked systems.
  • Website with further information on research activities
  • Support for founders
Transfer and business incubator at the Otto-von-Guericke University.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    Individual curricula/examination methods.
  • Characteristics of diversity advancement
Otto von Guericke Graduate School, networks such as Women in Science Network, ALUMNI Network, International PhD programme at the Department of Process and Systems Engineering, Graduate School, special research areas/Transregio, International Max Planck Research School (close cooperation), funding via Otto-von-Guericke University, such as for families, postdoctoral bridge funding, completion grants for PhD students, coaching and mentoring, Dorothea Erxleben guest professorship, careers services/international centre/student council of the university, student representatives of the department, continuing education.
  • Other special features
Process engineering is found everywhere – even if it is not always obvious or recognisable at first – and is an essential component for industry and society. It is primarily essential if the latter connects the desire for with prosperity with the demand for efficiency, sustainability and a considerate approach towards people and the environment.
