    The teaching and learning culture of the Department of Applied Social Sciences is characterised by: Generalist and interdisciplinary education in all programmes; Close links between research and practice (teaching research, practical research); High degree of service and advice orientation for individual study design; Great attention to project orientation and new forms of learning; Variety of support and specialisation options; Great respect for our students’ diversity.

  • Special features regarding research and development
    There are currently six funded research focuses in the Faculty for Applied Social Sciences: Migration and cross-cultural skills, media worlds, non-formal education, social space management, digital technologies and social services and education and education spaces in childhood and family. The competence platform "Migration, Cross-Cultural Education and Organisational Development" is an R&D network on cross-cultural issues that is funded by the Ministerium für Innovation, Wissenschaft und Forschung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (Ministry for Innovation, Science and Research in the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westfalia). 5 cooperative doctorates in the period 2013-2015.

    Teaching research and practical development projects in all programmes of the faculty, participation of students in the organisation of conferences and research methods are integral parts of all programmes at the faculty
