Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
The possibility of combining teacher training with a BA offers a high degree of organisational flexibility and specialisations. The advantage of studying at a small university in Eichstätt is that the classes are small compared with larger universities. This means that students' individual teaching and learning behaviour can be better taken into account. This means a high student-teacher ratio which benefits students writing their final dissertations.
  • Further information about study entry phase
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
Integration into German studies institute partnership (DAAD) with two Brazilian universities (UFRGS Porto Alegre and UFPEL Pelotas, in cooperation with FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg); Excellent contacts to and active exchange with German studies in Königgrätz via former German studies institute partnership (DAAD); High number of Erasmus partnerships, which students benefit from; Regular exchange of lecturers via the Erasmus programmes (especially Milan, Budapest, Turku)
  • Common partner universities for exchange
Universität Bern, Bern, Schweiz; University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Dänemark; Universität Gent, Gent, Belgien; Universität Oulu, Oulu, Finnland; Abo Akademi, Turku, Finnland; Universität Malmö, Malmö, Schweden; Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Mailand, Italien
  • Special features regarding the equipment
The university library is very well stocked. A large number of books can be accessed quickly, waiting times are short and there is an interlibrary loan service. Electronic publications are increasingly integrated into the library. All research tools relevant for German studies are available.
  • Special features regarding research activities
The research centre on religious literature of the Middle Ages has direct links to research via the sub-discipline of medieval studies. Students are also involved in other research projects, such as field research in linguistics.
  • Other special features
While studying German studies at larger universities is often quite anonymous, German studies at Eichstätt is a small department despite the university's size. Students quickly make contacts, and most students very much identify with their subject. This creates an excellent study atmosphere, which is also reflected in the very good tutor-student ratio.
