Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
Students are supervised in small groups, both in the tutorials and in the lab practicals. Because there are two English-language master's degrees, Physics and Applied Physics, many modules (including Bachelor modules) are available in English as the language of science. Annual excursions (e.g. to the CERN) allow the students to become familiar with international research activities early on. A regular presentation on the research activities of the institute arouses interest in research.

  • Special features regarding the international orientation
The Institute of Physics is intensively integrated nationally and internationally in joint projects. The spectrum ranges from local networking and collaborations in the EUCOR area to national networks and international collaborations. An important structural element beyond the local Freiburg context is the close connection to CERN, DESY, ELI-ALPS, FERMI, LNGS and XFEL underpinned by various projects. This international cooperation is being intensified by the three graduate colleges, two of which are international graduate colleges.
