Further information provided by the department

  • Special features regarding teaching
    Almost all lectures include practicals. This is where small groups of students (16 students) use laptops/PCs to learn to apply the concepts introduced in the lecture in practice. Either in pairs or in medium-sized groups, students work on projects and perform tasks that build on each other. The practicals are usually supervised by the professors themselves. Most of the lectures are interactive, with live-coding as well as lecture exercises being typical didactic elements.
  • Special features regarding the international orientation
    EDDIT is a four-year variant of the Bachelor’s degree programme (240 ECTS) at the Department of Computer Science; Students spend their fourth year of study at one of the participating foreign partner universities and additionally acquire the Bachelor’s degree from this partner university; In addition to the courses in computer science, students take part in language and cultural courses in which they become familiar with the culture of the international partner.
  • Common partner universities for exchange
    University of Applied Science Oulu; DIT (Dublin Institute of Technology); https://www.fbi.h-da.de/forschung-partner/partnerhochschulen.html
  • Special features regarding the equipment
    Topic-specific laboratories (multimedia, InCar, networks,...); Students can borrow laptops; Modern lecture hall equipment with two projectors, audio system and document camera in almost all lecture halls; Learning platform Moodle; Learning materials and old exams are made available; Some lectures are video recorded; Online registration system with app access (allocation of places in courses, registration for exams with information about deadlines, personal schedules, overview of assignments handed in/not yet handed in, access to grades and grade statistics); Virtual server for student projects.

  • Support for founders
    The Dörte Wörner Innovation Award is intended to encourage members of the university to develop business ideas in the field of informatics and set up companies on that basis. There are also various events such as a founders night or a founders meeting organised by the university.
  • Characteristics of assistance to differently abled persons
    Reasonable adjustments are generally possible; advice on study planning is provided in informal discussions;
  • Other special features
    Not only the lectures but also the practicals and tutorials are personally supervised by the professors so that direct contact with the students which is based on partnership is ensured. In order to make the start of the studies easier, the departmental student organisation offers a first-semester induction over the course of several days. As part of this, you will not only be provided with essential information, but also meet new people. In the ideal scenario, this will lay the foundation for a learning group, which, in our experience, is essential for successful studies.
