Special features regarding teachingThe eleven professors are supported by a large team of national and international experts from our well-established practice network, which means that systematic links can be made between theoretical and practical teaching content. A variety of study and teaching methods are employed, for example all students can do learning through research and then practice, consolidate and enhance their new skills in the Sim-Skills lab. The department is particularly committed to skills-oriented examining.
Special features regarding the international orientationThe Department of Nursing has a variety of international contacts. Mobility with partner universities in Scandinavia, work placements in German and English-speaking countries and participation in summer and winter schools are specifically supported. Individual programmes are offered every year; application is made through the International Office, where is also supported organisationally and financially (e.g. Erasmus funds). Through individual guidance and reliable learning agreements, mobility is specifically promoted. The exchange also includes lecturers and other employees.

Special features regarding the equipmentThe department can use all the technical facilities of the university including the computer rooms and all the media equipment in all teaching rooms with projectors and touchscreen monitors. Since 2015, the Department of Nursing has had a fully equipped simulation laboratory (sim and skills lab). The library is comprehensively stocked and up-to-date in the field of Nursing. The teaching staff and students use the teaching platform Moodle; the media officer offers support for the use of presentation systems, text and typesetting systems. The media library of the KSH comprises about 3000 media items.

Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsThe university has a professorial officer for disabled people; lift access is available to all classrooms/teaching spaces; depending on their individual situation, students can apply to the examinations commission for an extension of the time allowed for examinations; in the case of longer-term conditions, advice is available on applying for leave, programme extension and programme planning; people with physical disabilities who have evidence of severe disability of at least 50% are given special consideration in the allocation of study places in accordance with the admission statutes.
Characteristics of diversity advancementThe women’s and equal opportunity officer and the officer for disabled people work closely with the dean’s office, the department is represented on the “Frauenbeirat” (Women’s Council) and strives to support students with foreign qualifications, those who are the first in their families to go to university or who are under additional pressure as a result of family commitments. Routine and individual advisory services, including individual advice on grants and scholarships, are available for these groups of people.
Other special featuresThe university has a centre of media education, theatre education, music education and an art education centre as well as a modern simulation and skills lab. Students of all study programmes have access to the services of the writing support centre (SUZ), and they can participate in the complementary theological education (TZ), which teaches skills in the field of religion and spirituality. The campus houses the Catholic university association, which offers various programmes for leisure activities, reflection and church services, and music groups.
